Any reputable contractor is insured, however, with the onset of Covid and “free money” all over the place, a huge number of “beer money Bob’s” popped up in the outdoor service industry – especially stump removal.  The “discounts” offered by some uninsured contractors are simply not worth it!  

In Michigan, If the contractor you hire is not insured, you as the property owner become the general contractor. That makes you responsible for all of their errors. If you hire an uninsured contractor knowingly, it’s likely that your insurance will refuse to cover any of the damages.  Don’t put your entire future at risk to save some money up front.
