I hired them to grind a few tree stumps that another company only ground a few inches below the ground. They did a great job and were very competitive price wise. I would hire them again.
Stump Removal and Grinding
What does being “Mr. Posthole” have to do with stump grinding? Everything!
Two of the most common outdoor projects homeowners and contractors waste their time and money on are renting auguring equipment for decks and fences and renting small, under-powered stump grinders for tree stump removal. I started my “outdoor services” career way back in 2003 when I purchased my first commercial stump grinder and contracted with tree services to grind and remove tree stumps for their customers. I LOVE STUMP GRINDING! The transformation from an ugly, bug infested, inconvenient-to-mow-around-stump to a finished lawn is very satisfying and something I am proud to offer. Often, deck, fence, and building projects require the removal of tree stumps so it is a natural fit for us to offer our service. You can’t drill post holes through tree stumps! We use commercial stump grinding equipment to complete the stump removals as quickly as possible for a reasonable price!
Why not just rent a stump grinder and do it yourself? Excellent question and I am glad you asked. FIrst, operating a stump grinder is extremely dangerous. Even small machines have high speed, exposed cutting wheels that send debris flying in all directions. When grinding tree stumps, the machines are going to hit not only the stump, but dirt, rocks, and debris of all kinds. Tree stumps and roots “pick up” and grow around anything in the ground and the stump grinder IS GOING TO SEND IT FLYING risking damaging doors, windows, passing vehicles and persons. Another reason is renting is often far more expensive than allowing us to simply grind the stump for you and will 100% be more time consuming. When renting, not only do you have the cost of the rental itself, but you must pay for any teeth you damage. The likelihood of grinding stumps and not damaging the cutting teeth is almost non- existent. Rental machines are typically smaller and very slow to use for anything but the smallest stumps.
So why us? Again, I am glad you asked! Anytime you penetrate the ground, you are required by law to contact MISS DIG 72 hours in advance. We handle this for you.
We generally grind 13-15” below grade completely removing the stump and eliminating chances of settling in the future and allowing for re-planting of trees and shrubs. We use both ground protection as necessary and screening to protect the area and passersby from flying debris. We are FULLY INSURED and are happy to provide our certificate upon request. Regardless of whether or not you use our services, make sure anyone you hire is FULLY INSURED FOR LIABILITY! This can be a dangerous process and the potential for both injury and damage to property (both buried and above ground) is significant.
We also offer several different types of service. We can grind and leave the chips in a neat pile to be used as mulch or removed to or grind and haul the excess chips/debris away for you. We also offer a complete service of grinding, chip removal, adding topsoil and reseeding. We treat every project as though it is our own!
